Greetings from the UNC Project in Lilongwe, Malawi!
This morning we drove the 180 miles from Blantyre to Lilongwe, which is the capital of the country.
Here on the grounds of Kamuzu Central Hospital, the UNC Project has its headquarters in the Tidziwe Center, a building built in 2003, to house the various UNC-led research, clinical care and training programs. UNC has more than 300 staff here, and a very impressive set of projects. I got a briefing just now from Dr. Francis Martison and his team.
We are off now to a reception for me to meet the entire staff. This is a long way from Manning Drive, in some ways, but very relevant to the work that we are doing in Chapel Hill. Things learned here have direct application back home. It is global health in action.
More later. Bill
